Empowering Parents. Nurturing Futures.
The Partnership Afghanistan Canada (PAC) is proud to share the successful design and implementation of our Parenting Course Project, delivered to a group of Afghan mothers and fathers over five weeks.
This initiative was created to support families with practical knowledge, culturally responsive guidance, and a safe space for learning, sharing, and connection.
About the Program
The course brought together 40 Afghan parents to explore key topics in early childhood development, including:
- Physical Development
- Cognitive Development
- Language Development
- Social Development
- Emotional Development
Through interactive discussions, real-life examples, and group reflection, parents strengthened their confidence and skills in supporting their children’s development.
Why the Early Years Matter
The first five years of life are the most important period for a child’s development. During this time:
- A child’s brain develops more rapidly than at any other stage
- Early experiences shape learning, behavior, and health outcomes
- Strong relationships with parents build the foundation for emotional security and resilience
When parents understand how children grow and learn, they are better able to provide the nurturing, responsive care that supports healthy brain development.
A Culturally Responsive Approach
This program was designed with deep respect for Afghan culture, language, and family values. By engaging both mothers and fathers, the course strengthened shared parenting roles and encouraged meaningful participation from both caregivers.
Impact
Parents reported:
- Increased confidence in their parenting
- Better understanding of child development
- Stronger connections with their children
- Greater awareness of health and safety practices
Looking Ahead
PAC remains committed to expanding this initiative and continuing to support Afghan families in building strong, healthy foundations for their children.
Because when we invest in parents, we invest in the future of children—and communities.
